About

Portrait of João Vitor Viegas
São Luís → Lisbon

I'm a Brazilian software engineer from São Luís, Maranhão, now living in Lisbon.

I learned to code the way a lot of Brazilian devs did: Rocketseat bootcamps, late nights, and a local startup where I ended up as CTO. In 2021 I joined Procimo as a remote full-stack developer, and grew from there to team lead and then Head of Engineering.

Most of my day is architecture, delivery and people: turning messy requirements into clear specs, designing systems that survive real factories, hiring, and building an engineering practice where AI handles the busywork and humans own the decisions.

Off the clock I tune split keyboards, turn games and films into colorschemes, and build small keyboard-first tools for my own life.

What I do

Sep 2025 — now

Head of Engineering

Procimo · Lisbon

I lead engineering at Procimo: the squads and team leads building our industrial, climate, mobility and internal products. My job is to make sure we build the right thing, the right way, at a pace clients can trust, and to stay hands-on where the problems are hardest.

  • Technical direction. Architecture and stack decisions for new platforms, and design reviews for the ones we already run.
  • Spec-driven delivery. Short feature specs, testable acceptance criteria, and living functional specs updated in the same pull request as the code.
  • AI-native workflow. Shared Claude Code skills for implementation plans, review and QA validation and releases, so AI does the busywork and people own the decisions.
  • People. Coaching team leads, running technical hiring end to end, and an engineering health dashboard that flags stale reviews and blocked work early.

On my desk right now

Factory floor

MES and shop-floor intelligence for an automotive plastics group: live machine data, automatic production planning, ERP integration and edge servers running inside the plants.

Climate & ESG

Carbon-emissions dashboards and a platform for measuring the footprint of events, built with a climate consultancy and their clients.

  • Multi-tenant
  • Integrations
  • Reporting

Compliance & access

A contractor-compliance and site-access platform for industrial sites: documents, approvals, and who's allowed through the gate.

  • Workflows
  • Security
  • Docs-first

Mobility & sport

A car-sharing platform with connected cars, and a platform for padel clubs and competitions: mobile apps, bookings, payments and back-offices.

Team Leader

Rummo · car sharing

I'd been building Rummo, a car-sharing platform, since 2021. In November 2023 I took over its engineering squad: planning, code review, delivery and the technical calls in between. The biggest of those was rebuilding the platform.

  • New backend. NestJS and PostgreSQL replacing the original Firebase stack, with modules for search, bookings, payments, insurance and operating cities.
  • New mobile app. An Expo (React Native) app started from scratch, where I was also the main contributor.
  • Back-office. A React app for the operations team to manage cars, bookings, insurance and cities.
  • Team foundations. Shared lint configs, pull-request templates, private packages and CI, so a growing squad could ship without stepping on each other.
  • NestJS
  • PostgreSQL
  • Expo
  • React
  • TypeScript

Journey

  1. 2019Pede Fácil

    CTO of a local startup

First startup, first web prototype, first React Native app, and the first time being responsible for everything.

  2. 2020Klutch Technology

    First developer job

Finished Rocketseat's GoStack bootcamp and joined Klutch Technology, a software house in Salvador, Bahia.

  3. 2021Procimo

    Remote, across the Atlantic

Joined Procimo, a Lisbon software company, as a remote full-stack developer working with Node.js, React and React Native.

  4. Nov 2023Rummo

    Team lead

Took over the Rummo squad and learned that making a team faster beats writing all the code yourself.

  5. Jun 2025Lisbon, PT

    Moved to Lisbon

Crossed the Atlantic for real and made Lisbon home.

  6. Sep 2025Procimo

    Head of Engineering

Leading engineering across Procimo's industrial, climate, mobility and internal products: architecture, delivery, process and hiring.

Side projects

Things I build for myself, mostly at night, mostly in Neovim.

macOS · Terminal · Go

Momentum

A native, keyboard-first task manager for macOS and the terminal. Type tasks the way you think, see what actually fits in today, and let your meetings take their share of the hours.

NestJS · React · Postgres

Finance Control

Our household budget, rebuilt from a spreadsheet: shared spaces, weekly budgets, split transactions and credit-card tracking. In daily use at home.

zsh · Neovim · tmux

Dotfiles

One repo, three machines: macOS, Fedora GNOME and Omarchy. zsh, Neovim, tmux, AeroSpace, Sketchybar and kanata, deployed by a single installer.

Let's build something useful.

A factory that needs to talk to its machines, a team that wants to ship with less drama, or just a chat about split keyboards: my inbox is open.
